"Before YouTube, Getting Royalties In Nollywood Was A Challenge" - Ronke Oshodi Oke

Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi Oke has noted that the shift to producing films for YouTube has effectively addressed the industry's long-standing challenges with marketing and royalty payments.

In a recent interview on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, the veteran actress explained that filmmakers in the past faced major difficulties in earning continuous royalties from their movies.

According to Ronke, 51, YouTube has transformed the industry by giving actors and filmmakers greater control over the entire production process while also allowing them to keep all the income that comes from their work.

"Before, it used be very difficult before to get royalties when you produce a movie. We have been managing and trying," she said.

"Thank God now that you have your own YouTube. Now you are your own marketer, you are your own producer, you are your own executive producer, you do everything on your own.

"You are not owing anybody, nobody is owing you anything. That is why everyone is having their own YouTube. You do not owe nobody explanation."

Ibironke Ojo-Anthony, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi Oke, launched her acting career with a drama group called Star Parade.

She gained widespread recognition in 2000 after starring in the film Oshodi Oke, a role that not only brought her into the limelight but also earned her the stage name she is known by today.

In 2023, Ronke revealed that the hectic nature of her acting career had strained some of her past relationships before she eventually got married.
