secretary-treasurer of Highway 55 Corridor Coalition

The Highway 55 Corridor Coalition recently elected its officers for 2005. Anne Hurlburt was elected secretary-treasurer.

She has been Community Development Director for Plymouth since 1993. She also is the executive director of the Plymouth Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

Hurlburt is a member of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Besides representing Plymouth on the coalition board, she also is a member of the coalition's Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), which provides technical transportation and funding information and recommendations to the coalition.

Youth orchestra slates auditions

The Excelsior Youth Symphonic Strings (EYSS) is currently scheduling auditions for the fall session. EYSS is a youth orchestra for children who play stringed instruments at all levels, with three levels of orchestra directed by Kristina Lantz.

EYSS will rehearse every Tuesday, Sept. 20-Dec. 13, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior. Auditions will be held Monday, Aug. 29; Saturday, Sept. 20, and upon request. For more information, call 952-474-8893.

Oliver elected treasurer of arts board

At its annual meeting, the Minnesota State Arts Board elected Edward Oliver treasurer.

Oliver, Deephaven, is owner and CEO of Oliver Financial, and represented the Lake Minnetonka area in the Minnesota Senate from 1993-2003.

He and his wife have been active members and participants in many community and art organizations including the Minnesota Opera, Art on the Lake, Minnetonka Center for the Arts, United Way, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities.

He was appointed to the board in 2003 and previously served as its secretary.

The Minnesota State Arts Board is made up of 11 citizens who are appointed by the governor. Members serve four-year terms.

The Minnesota State Arts Board is a state agency dedicated to ensuring that all Minnesotans have the opportunity to participate in the arts. It provides grants and services to artists, arts organizations, schools, colleges and universities, communities, and other organizations that sponsor arts activities.

Funds for Minnesota State Arts Board programs are provided through an appropriation from the Minnesota Legislature, with additional funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
