Six-minute stretch gives Holy Family lead for good

For six minutes Saturday, Holy Family Catholic was the dominant girls lacrosse team. The other 44 minutes the match was even between the Fire and host Chaska/Chanhassen.

Unfortunately for the Storm Hawks, those six minutes were costly in an 18-12 defeat to the Fire. C/C has lost four of the last five games to fall to 2-4 on the season.

With the score tied at two nearly 12 minutes into the game, Holy Family used a six-goal run to gain the advantage for good. Fire sophomore Tori Nelson netted three consecutive goals - two on free shots from the slot - for the 5-2 lead.

Two tallies from Megan Menzuber plus a goal from Emily Pearson made it 8-2. Six goals, six minutes, six-goal lead.

C/C got within four goals at halftime as Elizabeth Roane found a cutting Lida Ernst in front of the goal for a score as time expired at 11-7.

Also scoring in the first half for the Storm Hawks were Roane and Anna Lano each twice and Sophie Buelow and Katelyn Noll.

Holy Family, which improved to 4-2 on the season, also got three tallies in the first half from Ciara White, while senior captain Ashley Hanson had a pair of goals late in the first stanza.

The Fire outscored the Storm Hawks 7-5 over the final 25 minutes.

C/C plays at Minnetonka at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Holy Family played Minnetonka on Saturday.
