PRAIRIE HOME -- The St. Elizabeth Hornets took big steps toward a No. 1 district tournament seed and a conference title Tuesday with a 71-58 victory against the Prairie Home Panthers.
St. Elizabeth jumped out to a 24-12 lead after one quarter, only to see Prairie Home rally to cut its deficit to 37-31 at the half.
The Hornets took a 55-45 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Nick Heckemeyer and Gavin Williams both had double-doubles for St. Elizabeth. Heckemeyer finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists.
Noah Chipman added 12 points for the Hornets, while Blake Wobbe totaled 11 points.
Prairie Home falls to 16-5 overall, 3-1 in the conference. St. Elizabeth is now 15-8 overall, 5-0 in the conference. Both are assigned to Class 1 District 9.
St. Elizabeth is back in action Saturday against Faith Christian Academy out of Kansas City. The game will be played at Bunceton.
