Syracuse, N.Y. -- Upstate New York this week will see chances for at least two more wintry-mix storms as a busy winter continues.
Storms could hit Wednesday night and again on the weekend, the National Weather Service said. All of Upstate New York is under a hazardous weather outlook through the weekend.
"A light wintry mix is expected Wednesday night into Thursday which can lead to slippery travel, especially for the Thursday morning commute," the weather alert said. "Another storm system could bring a round of widespread precipitation Saturday into Sunday."
The first storm is likely to start as light snow about dinnertime Wednesday. Gradually warming temperatures overnight could turn that snow over to freezing rain in the early morning hours and finally just rain by sunrise Thursday. Behind that storm, several inches of lake effect snow could fall Thursday evening and into Friday morning.
There's greater uncertainty with the weekend storm, as forecasting computer models disagree on how far north the warmer air will surge. The farther north that warm air comes, the less snow and more freezing rain will fall.
That storm "has the potential to produce heavy snow," the weather service said. That storm is expected to move out by Monday.
After that, we're in for another blast of Arctic air. The high temperatures early next week could be only in the teens, with lows in the single digits. There's also the chance for lake effect snow a week from now.
