SOOO CLOSE! 15 New Millionaires, Including One in Texas, Were 1 Number Away from A Billion Dollars

The Texas Lottery has confirmed that nobody matched all six winning numbers in Wednesday's drawing for the $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot. Those numbers were 3-16-29-61-69, and the Powerball was 22.

It's now estimated that the jackpot for the next drawing on Saturday, September 6, will be worth $1.70 BILLION! That's the 3rd largest in Powerball history, barely behind the 2nd largest of $1.765 billion, which occurred in October 2023.

Don't be surprised if updated estimates before Saturday bring the current jackpot above $1.80 billion. The estimated lump sum payout is $770 million.

The biggest Powerball prize you can win without hitting the big jackpot is when you match all five non-Powerball numbers. That's worth a $1 million payout, $2 million if you spend the extra buck to Powerplay your ticket.

15 players managed to match those five non-Powerball numbers. 4 of those opted for Powerplay and doubled their winnings. One of those $2 million winners was from Texas.

That winning ticket was purchased at this store in Houston, located on Cesar Chavez Boulevard.

The other winners of $2 million were from Michigan, Oregon, and Wyoming. The 11 tickets that won $1 million were purchased in California (2), Colorado, Florida, Georgia (2), Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The next Mega Millions drawing will take place on Friday, September 5. That jackpot is now up $336 million, with an estimated lump sum payout is $151.3 million.

The last time somebody won the Mega Millions jackpot was on June 27. That winning ticket was good for $348 million.
