MOSIER Ore. (KPTV) - A Level 3: Go Now evacuation order was issued east of Mosier on Wednesday afternoon due to a wildfire. At 7:19 p.m., the evacuation order was downgraded to a level one, "Be Ready," order according to the Wasco County Sheriff's Office.
At 4:30 p.m., deputies posted on social media that everyone living in the area of Cherry Hill Drive and Kingdom Street was ordered to leave immediately.
The fire was reported at 3:45 p.m., according to Wasco County. The first report said it was a fire in a brushy area on the edge of the city near the 300 block of Cherry Hill Drive in Mosier.
The fire reportedly started from an escaped debris pile.
One of the Oregon Department of Forestry's cameras first detected the fire.
As of 5:30 p.m., firefighters reportedly managed to get the upper hand on it and were in the mop-up stages.
The burned area is estimated to be 2.5 acres.
No injuries have been reportedly and no structures have been damaged, according to Wasco County.
There were about 15 fire rigs and 35 to 40 people on the scene from: Mosier Fire, Mid Columbia Fire & Rescue, U.S. Forest Service, ODF, and WyEast Fire District.
Evacuations remained in effect until 7:19 p.m. in case of flare-ups, as there are winds in the area between 10 and 15 miles per hour.
