How does Count Orlok go number two? "That was the only thing that was easy to take off, were the fingers," Skarsgård says.
Happy Nosferatu eve, ladies and gents. At long last, director Robert Eggers's reimagining of the classic Dracula story will hit theaters nationwide on Christmas. You know what that means, right? All of the interviews -- from the likes of Eggers, Nicholas Hoult (who plays Thomas Hutter), and Count Orlok himself, Bill Skarsgård -- are finally seeing the light of day. And they're pretty fucking crazy.
They include, but certainly aren't limited to: Hoult admitting that he has Count Orlok's prosthetic dick "framed at home" (?!?!), Eggers detailing the intricacies of training hundred of rats how to act, and Skarsgård telling us exactly why it was so easy to take a dump while in costume. Vampires shit, too! On the occasion of our Summer 2024 cover story which starred the 34-year-old actor, we asked him in a video interview how he handled Orlok's claws in between takes.
"Well, wiping my ass," he said, laughing. "These pieces were very easy to take off. That was the only thing that was easy to take off, were the fingers. So I could pull them off between takes -- if I had to go to the number two."
There you go, folks. One mystery solved. By the way, I'm only making light of Skarsgård's Orlok because I'm only a week removed from seeing Nosferatu -- and he's every bit as horrifying in the role as advertised. I won't spoil anything for you, but Skarsgård's take on the monster is beyond disturbing: the voice, the mug, and yes, even the dick.
"I was so terrified," Skarsgård added of seeing Eggers's spin on Count Orlok for the first time. "Robert Eggers showed me the molds and sort of the direction of the character and I'm like, 'That doesn't look anything like me.' And I was really worried that I couldn't perform this face. But in the end, it looked amazing."
