Pottsville house fire remains under investigation

The investigation continued Monday into a Pottsville fire that severely damaged two homes and left three people injured, officials said.

The fire started early Friday morning in the half-double home at 678 N. Second St. and spread to an adjoining home.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by State Police, the Pottsville Fire Department and Pottsville Police, which anticipate completing the probe this week, officials said.

Pottsville Fire Chief James E. Misstishin Sr. said that three residents of 678 N. Second St. were taken to the hospital, treated and have been released.

Their names were not made public.

All four people who lived in the home are now displaced and are receiving assistance from the local American Red Cross chapter, officials said.

The adjoining home was vacant.

All of the residents of 678 were outside the home when firefighters arrived, and flames were visible from the first and second floor, officials said.

It took firefighters about two hours to bring the fire under control.
