7 former BV standouts earn academic honors at A&M in helping set school record

EAGLE STAFF REPORT

Texas A&M had a record-breaking 82 student-athletes on the 2024 Southeastern Conference fall academic honor roll. That's 10 more than the Aggies had a year ago and four more than the previous best of 78 in 2020.

Seven former Brazos Valley standouts are included, including four in football.

Sophomore deep-snapper Levi Hancock, who played at Brazos Christian, is majoring in Financial Planning; sophomore linebacker Chantz Johnson, who played at College Station, is majoring in Sport Management; junior defensive back Jarred Kerr, who is from Lexington, is majoring in Agricultural Leadership & Development; and sophomore defensive back Kyle Walsh, who played at College Station, is majoring in Agricultural Leadership & Development. In cross country, sophomore Maddie Jones and freshman Megan Roberts, who both ran at College Station, are both majoring in Sport Management. In soccer, junior midfielder Ella Goodwin, who played at A&M Consolidated, is majoring in Business Honors.

"Our student-athletes' commitment to excellence in the classroom makes us all incredibly proud," A&M athletic director Trev Alberts said. "This is a great step in their progress toward graduating and I am thankful for their efforts, as well as our staff's part in ensuring their academic success. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes that earned their place on this record-setting fall SEC academic honor roll."

To be considered, student-athlete had to have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; if they attended summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the academic honor roll; those eligible for the honor roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and nonscholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons; prior to being nominated, they must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution; and they must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
