Both President Donald Trump and Taylor Swift were at the Super Bowl tonight, with Trump becoming the first sitting president to attend the big game while Swift was at her second straight Super Bowl to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Obviously the two aren't big fans of each other, with Swift endorsing Trump's opponent in the last two elections. And after the pop superstar endorsed Kamala Harris last fall, Trump went in on her on social media, posting on his Truth Social platform that he "hated" Taylor Swift while praising Brittany Mahomes, the Trump-supporting wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes:
"I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She's a big Trump fan. I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time. You couldn't possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden, you couldn't possibly endorse him. But she's a very liberal person, she seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she'll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.
But no, I like Brittany. I think Brittany's great. We got a lot of news last week, she's a big MAGA fan, that's the one I like much better than Taylor Swift."
Well with both Trump and Swift in the building for the Super Bowl, all eyes were on the receptions that the two polarizing figures would receive from fans in the Superdome. And it seemed like the crowd had a clear favorite - though it might not be the one you would expect.
During the national anthem, Trump was shown on the big screen standing beside New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and his daughter Ivanka Trump as the president saluted the flag. And the crowd erupted into cheers when the president was shown on the screen:
Meanwhile, video from inside the stadium showed the Superdome crowd booing Taylor Swift as she was shown on the jumbotron, no doubt a lot of those boos coming from Eagles fans. Swift was originally from Pennsylvania and grew up an Eagles fan, although now she supports the Chiefs since her relationship with Travis Kelce.
The contrast in the reactions quickly began to circulate over on Twitter/X, and it also seems to have gotten the attention of President Trump himself.
During the second half of the Super Bowl, Trump posted the videos of the respective crowd reactions on his Truth Social account, along with reposting a tweet from conservative influencer Libs of TikTok that claimed "the world is healing" after Trump was cheered at the game.
While both Trump and Swift were rooting for the Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the game and denied the Chiefs the three-peat, leading to plenty of jokes about Taylor and the rumor that Kelce was planning on proposing to the pop superstar after the game. (Don't think that's going to happen now).
I have a feeling that despite the Chiefs loss, Trump isn't going to be too upset about his time at the game.
