A late goal in regulation wasn't enough for the Sabers boys hockey to snap their losing streak on Thursday night.
Shakopee scored with 28 seconds left in their game against Apple Valley to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into overtime.
However, the Eagles scored at 3:25 into overtime to win 4-3 and drop Shakopee to 2-14 on the season and extend their losing streak to seven games.
The Sabers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period when Alex Gaul and Jared Swanson scored in a span of 1:44.
In the second period, the Sabers wasn't able to hold onto the lead as the Eagles scored three times to grab a 3-2 lead.
The score remained at 3-2 until Tommy Schmid tied the game with 28 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Sabers goalie Cole Geyen stopped 35 shots in the loss while the Eagles goalie stopped 37.
Girls hockey
As for the Sabers girls hockey team, they had little trouble in beating Rosemount at the Shakopee Ice Arena on Thursday afternoon.
The Sabers scored four times in each period to top the Irish 12-1.
Sarah Kubes, Nicole Vogel and Lauryn McNeil each scored twice in the victory. Also scoring for the Sabers was Myka Stave, Courtney Siddorn, Dani Hennen, Tristen Truax, Ally Loiselle and Abby Eastman.
Shakopee fired 52 shots on net while Kallie Engen stopped five of six shots for the Sabers.
