Cory Paix could be on the move north, with the Cowboys identifying the Broncos hooker as a potential replacement for Reece Robson.
The 25-year-old has emerged as a target for North Queensland as Brisbane grapple with a growing salary cap crisis and a looming list of off-contract stars.
With 14 players reportedly worth $4 million set to come off the books, the Broncos are under pressure to make tough decisions, particularly after veteran half Adam Reynolds announced he'll continue playing in 2026.

Paix, who's featured both as a starter and off the bench under Michael Maguire this season, has made no secret of his desire to stay in Brisbane. But with salary cap constraints tightening, the club may not be able to hold onto everyone.
"It [Broncos] means the world. I have got my family close by and obviously the Broncos have spent a lot of time on me developing me into the person and player I am," Paix said, according to Code Sports.
"I did a lot of milestones here in my personal life. Brissie is home to me. I would love to be a Bronco for life, but sometimes in life you don't always get what you want."

The Cowboys are also reportedly monitoring Bulldogs rake Reed Mahoney, though Paix appears the more immediate option. His manager, Paul Hogan, confirmed discussions have taken place between Paix and Brisbane officials.
"Cory would like to stay at the Broncos, but it depends on what happens," Hogan said.
"The Broncos are keen to keep him. We'll see what transpires over the next few weeks, but Cory is focused on playing good football, and if he does that, his future will sort itself out. He has fought back really well and is enjoying being coached by Madge."
