PUEBLO, Colo. (KXRM) -- New imaging technology at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center aims to improve patient experience and replace a 20-year-old 34,000-pound device.
UCHealth Parkview in Pueblo has upgraded its imaging technology with the installation of a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine. The new system will provide faster, more precise scans, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and improving patient comfort.
"This new MRI benefits the patients, the physicians, and the facility," said Jarad Muasau, vice president of operations at UCHealth Parkview. "Technology has advanced tremendously in the past two decades, allowing us to detect subtle issues in the brain, bones, and joints. If something is there, we want to find it to ensure accurate diagnoses and peace of mind for our patients."
The new machine, MAGNETOM Sola 1.5 MRI, will offer reduced scan times -- often by 25% to 50% faster, without compromising quality. In addition, the machine's wider opening and advanced airflow system and lighting create a more comfortable experience for patients.
"MRI image quality has dramatically increased," said Ronny Sullivan, UCHealth Parkview's director of imaging services. "Unlike older open MRI systems, the closed-bore design provides superior signal quality, which is critical for detecting complex conditions like cancers, neurological and cardiovascular disorders, and joint injuries."
The older machine was removed in Dec. 2024. The new 7,500-pound machine was installed in February and is expected to be operational in early March.
