'Dexter: Resurrection' Adds Unexpected Hollywood Icon to Sequel Series Cast

'Dexter: Resurrection' Adds Unexpected Hollywood Icon to Sequel Series Cast

Dexter fans have a lot to look forward to this year, as not only is Dexter: Origins in the midst of its run on Showtime with Paramount+, but Dexter: Resurrection will also premiere in June. To top it all off, the sequel series has just landed one of the biggest names ever to appear in the Dexter universe: Uma Thurman.

Per Deadline, Thurman has signed on to appear as a series regular in Dexter: Resurrection, joining the returning Michael C. Hall as the titular serial killer, David Zayas as Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and Jack Alcott as Dexter's son, Harrison. Thurman is undoubtedly a global superstar, and certainly brings a lot of star power to the series. She's perhaps most remembered for her supporting role in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, and for starring in the director's martial arts action films Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2. Her most recent film appearance was in Paul Schrader's 2024 drama Oh, Canada, where she starred alongside Richard Gere, Michael Imperioli, and Jacob Elordi.

For Dexter: Resurrection, Thurman will take on the role of Charley, a former Special Ops officer who now works in private security, where she had a number of high-level jobs before her current position, which happens to be the Head of Security for a mysterious billionaire named Leon Prater. There's no word yet on who is portraying Prater, but considering the series began filming earlier this month, we expect that news to come any day now.

What Uma Thurman's Role Means for 'Dexter: Resurrection' Close

With Thurman now on board and her role revealed for Dexter: Resurrection, it gives us a little more insight into where creator Clyde Phillips might be taking the sequel. Origins firmly showed that Dexter is still alive and in police custody, so we assume that at some point he'll manage to escape to continue fulfilling the needs of his Dark Passenger.

From there, it appears he'll either be hunting Prater and must go through Thurman's character to get to him, or - considering the eccentricities of billionaires - he's the one being hunted as some sort of trophy to add to Prater's collection. Either way, we expect Dexter and Charley to form a special connection as things progress; maybe even connecting on a romantic level. If Phillips really wants to throw things for a loop, he could have Batista be the one to see things Dexter's way, and make it he who convinces our beloved serial killer to take out the billionaire.

Needless to say, there are a number of directions that Dexter: Resurrection can go right now, and while nothing has been confirmed in terms of storylines, it's still fun to speculate what could happen. That's part of what makes the series so fun to watch, and now with Origins in full swing, it only adds another layer of depth to an already intricate character. Look for Dexter: Resurrection to premiere in June 2025, and check out the entire Dexter universe - including Origins - streaming now on Showtime with Paramount+.
