"Robots Are Here": First Lady Melania Trump Challenges Tech Leaders to Prepare a New Generation for an AI-Powered World
First Lady Melania Trump today convened a meeting of the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education, bringing together industry titans, government officials, and educational leaders to discuss the future of AI and its impact on the nation's youth. The First Lady's remarks highlighted the rapid advancements in technology and the urgent need to prepare America's next generation for an AI-driven future.
"We are living in a moment of wonder," Trump said, noting how AI now powers everything from self-driving cars and surgical robots to drones. "The robots are here. Our future is no longer science fiction."

Speaking to a room that included Google CEO Sundar Pichai, IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna, and Code.org President Cameron Wilson, the First Lady stressed the importance of responsible management of AI's growth. She drew a parallel between nurturing AI and raising children, stating, "it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children -- empowering, but with watchful guidance."
The First Lady predicted that AI would become the single largest growth category in the country during the current administration and could become "the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America."
To ensure America maintains its leadership in this new era, she challenged the task force to focus on three key priorities: Infrastructure & Energy, National Security, and Talent.

A central component of her remarks was the launch of the Presidential AI Challenge, an initiative aimed at preparing the workforce for AI's evolution. According to the First Lady, this challenge is the "first major step to galvanize America's parents, educators, and students." She added that English will become "the new 'coding language' for many," enabling creativity to "flow from every corner of America, sparking new industries, careers, and jobs."
The First Lady's comments were delivered as part of her broader initiative to promote online safety and education through her "Be Best" campaign. In May, she championed the passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act, a law designed to protect against online sexual exploitation and deepfakes. She has also used AI technology for the audiobook of her memoir, "Melania."
The meeting was a collaborative effort to align the private sector and government in a unified approach to AI education and development, with the First Lady acknowledging the vision of Michael Kratsios, Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, for his work in shaping the nation's technological future.
