BCP areas to brace for heavy rain after thunderstorm warning issued

BCP residents are to expect heavy rain after a thunderstorm warning was issued for the area.

Members of the public from Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and surrounding areas will be reportedly met with heavy rain, potential flooding and power cuts.

The weather warning, issued by the Met Office, is in place until around 12pm today, September 7.

People are to expect sudden flooding- that could lead to road closures and difficult driving conditions, delays and cancellations with train and bus services, chance of power cuts for homes and businesses and there's a chance some homes and businesses may experience flooding.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A band of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move north across the area giving one to hours of intense rain before clearing northwards. Some places could receive 30-40mm of rain in this time, along with a risk of frequent lightning and hail.

The Met Office is advising people to 'be prepared' for warnings to change quickly.

A spokesperson added: "Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
