Capitals prospect Cam Allen arrested on drunk driving charges, leaving the scene of an accident

Cam Allen, a Washington Capitals 2023 fifth-round draft selection and current defenseman for the OHL's London Knights, has been arrested and charged with several drunk driving-related offenses by London, Ontario police. Allen, 20, was allegedly involved in a single-vehicle collision while driving impaired on Sunday night and left the scene of the accident.

According to the police department's press release, Allen will be charged with impaired driving, impaired operation exceeding legal blood-alcohol levels, failing to remain at the scene of a crash, failing to report an accident, and having a blood-alcohol concentration above zero as a novice driver.

Allen is scheduled to appear in London court on March 6, 2025, in relation to the charges.

Police say one of the vehicle's passengers was transported by paramedic services to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

"The team takes this matter very seriously and are in the process of gathering all relevant information," Knights officials told the London Free Press' Jennifer Bieman. "We have been in contact with the OHL and will handle this in accordance with both league and team conduct policies. Disciplinary action will be determined by the OHL.

"Cam takes this matter very seriously and has assured us that he will fully cooperate with the court process. Cam understands the responsibility that comes with being a member of this organization and a representative of our community."

In mid-December, Allen was dealt to the Dale Hunter-coached Knights by the Guelph Storm in exchange for eight different assets. The Toronto native was called into Team Canada's 2025 World Junior selection camp but was ultimately cut from the final roster.

Allen has 42 points (11g, 31a) in 45 OHL games this season. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals after development camp concluded last July.
