Eagles' Jalen Hurts becomes first player from Houston area to win Super Bowl MVP

It's the eighth time a player from Texas has been named MVP of the Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes (Whitehouse) winning it three times while Nick Foles (Austin Westlake), Von Miller (DeSoto), Drew Brees (Austin Westlake) and Harvey Martin (South Oak Cliff) all won it once.

Hurts played for his father Averion Hurts at Channelview, about 15 miles east of downtown Houston, where he was one of the top recruits in the country after putting up a combined 3,500 yards and 40 touchdowns as a junior and then topping that as a senior with 3,700 total yards and 51 touchdowns. Hurts also was on the powerlifting team and threw the shot put for the track and field team. During a meet when he was just 16 years old, Hurts squatted 570 pounds, bench-pressed 275 pounds and dead-lifted 585 pounds.
