Clearwater Library reopening following extensive renovations

The library will reopen 10 a.m. Sept. 9 with a new roof, siding, covered canopy, front entrance and more

A community space where people can crack open a book will soon crack open its doors once again.

Following extensive upgrades in recent months, Clearwater's library is set to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) made the announcement Thursday, Sept. 4, saying the project that began in January has provided necessary improvements to the building envelope and modernized interior spaces.

Renovations included a full roof replacement, HardiePlank siding, a new covered canopy and front entrance, an after-hours meeting room entrance, low-flow plumbing fixtures, fresh paint, washroom upgrades and other cosmetic improvements.

The library also now has a larger children's area that will help it meet ongoing program demands, the TNRL said in a press release.

During construction, the Clearwater Library operated out of a temporary space at the Dutch Lake Community Centre.

"We are extremely grateful for the Wells Gray Country Seniors Society and District of Clearwater for enabling our temporary library location, and ensuring that library services could continue uninterrupted during this important renovation work," said Melissa Lowenberg, manager of community libraries and engagement. "We also appreciate the patience and understanding of our patrons, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the new-and-improved Clearwater Library."

The project was fully funded by the Library Enhancement Grant, a one-time grant for public libraries from the B.C. government. The total cost of the project was $388,866. It was completed by A&T Project Developments Inc.

People can stay tuned for information on a community grand opening event at the library.

The Clearwater Library is located at 422 Murtle Cres. and is open Tuesday through Saturday. For more information on services and programs, visit tnrl.ca.
