BINTULU (Sept 9): Police have assured the public that the threats to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities in Bintulu are under control and that the area remains safe.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak confirmed that the source of the threats has been identified and immediate action is being taken.
"For now, we have stepped up security measures at high-risk locations. I want to give my assurance that the situation is safe, under control, and being managed," he said during a Sarawak Police Contingent townhall session 'Berandau Begulai Mencegah Jenayah' at Auditorium Tanjung Kidurong, Menara Kidurong, Bintulu Port Authority today.
He was asked about a statement by the National Security Council yesterday announcing that the government had directed all LNG facilities in Bintulu, Sarawak, to immediately tighten security following the threats.
The move, it said, was to enable security forces and relevant agencies to carry out an immediate investigation.
Saifullizan said every enforcement agency has been mobilised and are carrying out their respective roles to safeguard the facilities and surrounding communities.
"No worries about it. Challenges like these are expected, and we will always be tested by such issues.
"What's important is that the public understands there are people constantly monitoring to ensure the safety of society and critical premises," he explained.
